Anything to do with Glorantha, for any game system or none.

The Digest is for discussing the world of Glorantha, irrespective of the game system you use (RuneQuest, Hero Wars, HeroQuest, PenDragon Pass...), or from a more "literary" point of view. It is aimed at people who want to know Glorantha in depth.

Rules

The Rules of the Digest are:

  1. Do not include large sections of a message in your reply. Especially not to add "Yeah, I agree" or "No, I disagree." Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise.

  2. Use an appropriate Subject line.

  3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis.

  4. No anonymous posting, please. Don't say something unless you're ready to stand by it.

The rules of the HeroQuest role-playing game.

Posts should be about the HeroQuest rules, game mechanics, example play situations and how to resolve them, etc.

Rules

The Rules of HeroQuest-rules are:

  1. Before posting, please read the Errata, FAQ and Rules Q&A - this will save everyone a great deal of time. Thank you.

  2. Please - when replying to a previous post, cut out the non relevant bits. Unedited "bulk" replies only show everyone that the poster is lazy (at best).

The Glorantha setting, as presented in the HeroQuest and Hero Wars role-playing games and their official supplements.

This is a non-rules-based list intended to support people who only know about Glorantha through the HeroQuest and Hero Wars product lines in their explorations and discoveries.

Rules

Posts to HeroQuest-RPG should :

  1. Be of interest to those who have recently started playing in Glorantha or are interested in running campaigns.

  2. Assume the reader has never seen material from before the publication of Hero Wars and doesn't buy unofficial fan-produced material.(You can discuss old RuneQuest products, including fan-written books and zines, on the Glorantha Digest).

  3. Not be focused on the rules.(You can discuss HeroQuest and Hero Wars rules on the HeroQuest-rules group).

  4. Be of interest to 'beer and pretzels' gamers, not amateur philosophers. (You can post your political analyses and lit-crit essays on the Glorantha Digest

What do the list owners do, exactly?

Straying too far off topic, abusing people, or repeated minor offences mean the list owner will get involved. Depending on the seriousness of the offence, this will normally start with quiet warnings. More serious action will be taken against offenders who persist, up to booting them from the list. List owners also have technical roles related to keeping the lists running.

What should I do if my simple question about Action Point Transfers turns into a discussion about post-modern feminist iconography?

Threads do wander. If you believe the messages you are sending are becoming more relevant to another list, post a message to the effect of 'lets continue this on ...' Then, post a message to the correct list with enough detail that people who haven't seen the original thread can pick it up. Normally, you would mention which list the thread has been moved from.

If a list's moderator notices a thread wandering too far, they may request you move it to a more appropriate forum. Please comply with such instructions: they aren't intended to spoil people's fun.

What terrible e-mailing faux pas should I avoid?

Everybody hates it when you accidentally mail MIME-encoded gibberish along with your message, or send "pretty" HTML mail which looks horrible when reflected on a mailing list, or hit the "reply" button on their badly-designed mailing software and send the entire 20K digested mailing list back where it came from. While the list moderators are sympathetic, there is a limit to their patience. If you can't sort yourself out, you may receive a polite warning to cease and desist.

Excessive Cross-Posting is the bane of all mailing lists. Try to hold a discussion in one place only. If you choose or are asked to move it to a more appropriate list, remember to drop it on the list you moved from. Otherwise things get very disjointed and confusing for most readers.

I have heard of other mailing lists. Can you tell me the truth about...

King of Dragon Pass [website: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/KingOfDragonPass] is a mailing list for discussion of A-Sharp's Gloranthan computer game, King of Dragon Pass. There's also an online forum.

Glorantha3D [website: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Glorantha3D] is is dedicated to the creation of artwork, maps, 3D models and virtual environments for the fantasy world of Glorantha, using software such as Poser, Bryce, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, Lightwave, 3-D Max and VRML. It's a forum where you can swap ideas, models and props, show off your latest creations, ask for technical help (no guarantees! :), and jointly plan epic 3-D projects.

Hero Wars Program [website: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HeroWarsProgram] is a mailing list to discuss the development and testing of the HeroWarsProgram. The HeroWarsProgram has implemented most of the Hero Wars rules synopsis, can build and store character sheets (with support for keywords) and already has rudimentary networking facilities. The program requires a gamemaster/narrator - it is not and will not be a MUD.

Gloranthan Boardgames is for discussion of the two Gloranthan board wargames, White Bear & Red Moon / Dragon Pass and Nomad Gods. Update October 2001: The mailing list is back up and running, on a new server. To subscribe, send an e-mail to glorantha-board-request@rpglist.org with "subscribe" in the body. Subscribers can send messages to glorantha-board@rpglist.org. Any problems, contact Graham Robinson .

RuneQuest Rules [email: majordomo@lists.ient.com with 'subscribe runequest-rules' in the body of the message] is for discussion of the RuneQuest game mechanics without reference to the game's Gloranthan setting. If you think the RQ3 Fatigue rules stink (and let's face it, who doesn't?), or want to discuss alternative settings (Alternate Earth, Middle-Earth, Tekumel...), this is the place to talk about it.
